Memory, Heritage and Identities
BCURE Working Group
Responsible : Marta Simó
The initial members of this working group are Marta Simó, a sociologist specializing in collective memory, social processes linked to commemoration and the intercultural dimension of the transmission of the past, with particular attention to the impact of these processes on the configuration of new collective identities.
And Marta Marín-Domine , writer and philologist with a solid background in testimonial literature, cultural memory and the study of the representation of the past in artistic and textual contexts.

The combination of these professional profiles will allow a dual approach:
Sociological and intercultural : analysis of the social frameworks of memory, public policies, the management of intangible heritage and the intercultural dimension of the transmission of the past, as well as its impact on the configuration of new identities.
Cultural and artistic : study of narratives, testimonies and artistic and textual expressions that give shape and meaning to individual and collective memories, and which are both vehicles of transmission and active agents in memorial configurations.

The initial work areas include:
-
Collective memory and identity : relationship between shared memories, ritual practices and identity construction.
-
Heritage and memory : analysis of tangible and intangible heritage as a repository of social memories.
-
Narratives of memory : literature, visual and audiovisual arts as spaces for representation and dispute over the past.
-
Memory and public space : studies on monuments, museums, memorials and artistic interventions.
-
Memory and cultural diversity : study of how different communities generate, preserve and transmit memories in multicultural environments.
With this proposal, the new group seeks to contribute to the scientific and public debate on memory, establishing bridges between disciplines and promoting dialogue between research, cultural institutions and civil society, as well as progressively incorporating professionals from other disciplines into the group, such as communication and law, with whom the members already collaborate on other projects.
