Who We Are

About BCURE
BCURE is the Laboratory for Contemporary Studies on Culture and Religion , of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) .
A research space that focuses on how culture and religion participate in the configuration of collective imaginaries, value systems and conflicts that cross contemporary societies.
Interdisciplinarity
We are an interdisciplinary research group that combines intellectual openness, creativity, theoretical solidity and scientific rigor. We understand research as a tool to think about complexity, generate critical knowledge and open spaces for dialogue between knowledge, disciplines and experiences.
BCURE was born as a renewal of the ISOR group (Research in Sociology of Religion), with more than forty years of experience at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. We maintain our academic roots and commitment to empirical analysis, and broaden our horizons with a clear interdisciplinary, diverse and international vocation.

We work from a situated perspective, articulating knowledge from sociology, anthropology, philosophy, history, political science and other areas of the social and human sciences.
Our pillars are epistemic justice, gender perspective and climate justice, from where we promote open, inclusive and collaborative research.
BCURE is a space for welcoming, exchanging and critical reflection for research professionals who share an interest in understanding the transformations of the contemporary world.
