Rosa Martinez-Cuadros is a Marie Curie researcher at OsloMet University, in Norway, where she is carrying out a research project on Islam, health and assisted reproduction.
Her research has focused on the study of Islam, gender, political participation and health. She has collaborated on several research projects on Islam, religious diversity, public space and the intersection between health and religion.
She was a Juan de la Cierva researcher at the University of Barcelona (2024–2025) and, in 2023, she completed a postdoctoral stay at the University of Bergamo funded by a COST Network (CORE). She holds a PhD in Sociology, with International Mention and Cum Laude Mention, from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (2022), and during her doctorate she was a visiting researcher at the University of Birmingham. She has also been a collaborating professor at the Open University of Catalonia.
In 2021, she received the Peter B. Clarke Memorial Essay Prize for an essay based on her doctoral thesis. In 2022, she received funding from the INSBS (International Network for the Study of Science and Belief in Society) at the University of Birmingham to lead and develop a project on Islam, gender and health, with fieldwork carried out in Barcelona and Tangier. She was also co-PI of the RELIG23-24 project, entitled “Religious communities and moral entrepreneurs in a context of affective polarization”.
She is currently a member of the board of FIMAM (Foro de Investigación del Mundo Árabe y Muslim) and coordinator of the “International Research Network on Science, Religion and Health”. She is part of the editorial team of the Journal of Religion in Europe. She is also a member of the research committee C16 – Sociology of Religion of the FES (Federación Española de Sociologia) and one of the coordinators of the Culture and Religion group of the Associació Catalana de Sociologia.
During his research career, it is worth highlighting his collaboration with social entities and with projects promoted by the AUDIR association and the Anthropology Association. He has coordinated knowledge transfer projects and has participated in and organized courses, conferences and discussions with people from different entities and religious communities.
