Victor Albert-Blanco

Postdoctoral researcher

Dr. Albert-Blanco is currently a "Juan de la Cierva" post-doctoral researcher at the Center for Research in Sociology of Religion (ISOR) of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB). He is also affiliated with the Center for Research in Political and Sociology of Paris (CRESPPA).

 

He obtained his PhD in Sociology from the University of Paris 8 in Saint-Denis (France) in 2022. Previously, Albert-Blanco received training in various fields of social sciences at four Spanish and French universities. In 2012, he obtained a degree in Political Science from the Pompeu Fabra University (UPF) in Barcelona, and in 2014 he completed a master's degree in Euro-Mediterranean Relations at the Rovira i Virgili University (Tarragona, Spain) and Paris 8 (France).

 

Dr. Albert-Blanco's research is situated at the intersection of religion, urban space and politics. He is particularly interested in the governance and management of religious pluralism in contemporary cities, with a focus on the impact of urban transformations on the production of religious and secular spaces. His doctoral thesis compared the regulation of Islam in gentrified neighborhoods of Paris and Barcelona. Research on this topic has been the basis for several publications in English, French and Spanish in indexed journals, such as Religion, State and Society, Social Compass, Journal of Religion in Europe, Papeles del CEIC and Cahiers de Geographie du Quebec. Albert-Blanco has also presented his research at national and international conferences, such as those organized by the International Sociological Association (ISA), the European Sociological Association (ESA), the International Society for the Sociology of Religion (ISSR-SISR), the French Sociological Association (AFS) and the Spanish Federation of Sociology (FES). He has also participated in conferences organized by scientific societies of other social science disciplines such as the Portuguese Anthropological Association (APA). He is also a member of the board of the thematic group on sociology of religion of the French Sociological Association (AFS) and Secretary General of the International Society for the Sociology of Religion (ISSR-SISR).

 

In terms of teaching, Dr. Albert-Blanco has taught at different universities. Before his current postdoctoral position at the UAB, he was a contracted professor of Sociology at the University of Toulouse 2 (France), at the University of Paris 8 (France), and also collaborated with the Open University of Catalonia (UOC) (Spain) in its online teaching programs in Sociology and Social Sciences. On the other hand, Albert-Blanco regularly disseminates the results of his research to the general public. He has published articles and has participated in television and radio programs in media such as RTVE, Catalunya Radio, La Ser, ElDiario.es, Orient XXI, Agenda Pública - El País, El Salto, Es Global and Dialogal. Albert-Blanco has also collaborated with different social organizations in the fields of cultural and religious diversity and the right to the city, and has been hired by public administrations to develop guides and programs related to the management of religious pluralism.
